The Five Senses Story Time: Sound - April 29-30, 2013

Books:
Bark, George by Jules Feiffer *
Moo in the Morning by Barbara Maitland *
Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? by Bill Martin Jr.
The Terrible Plop by Ursula Dubosarsky *
What the Baby Hears by Laura Godwin
What's Your Sound Hound the Hound? by Mo Willems *

Craft: Bell
This was a very simple craft to make.  A small paper plate was cut in half.  I then made a hole using a hole punch right on the straight edge in the center.  (It should look like half a hole punch.)  The children then colored the bottom side of the plate.  A jingle bell was tied onto a piece of curling ribbon.  The curling ribbon was laid into the hole punch and the plate was glued into a cone shape.  A piece of tape was usually needed to make sure the plate would stay glued.  These turned out very cute.  I really liked how a lot of the kids wore their bells like bracelets.

Literacy Extensions:
- Go over the different animal sounds with your child as in Polar Bear, Polar Bear and What the Baby Hears.
- Discuss how different places sound differently (i.e. country and city in Moo in the Morning)
