Grandparents Story Time: May 30, 2017

Craft: Hugging Child
The children colored a cardstock child cutout and then glued on extra long arms with hearts for hands.

Literacy Extensions:
- Spend some quality grandchild / grandparent time by reading books together.
- Find some photographs of your child's grandparents when they were young and show them to your child.  Ask them how the photos look the same and different from photos of them.

Craft: Rocket Ship
The children colored a cardstock rocket ship cutout.  It had two "windows" where they could draw siblings if they liked.  Yellow crepe paper streamers were glued on as flames.

Literacy Extensions:
- After reading Trixie Ten, have your child make a fingerprint family portrait including all the members of your family.
- Practice letter recognition.  Have your child find words that start with the same letters as their siblings' names.

Daddy Story Time: May 22-23, 2017

Craft: Tie
The kids colored a cardstock cutout of a tie before gluing on sequins for decoration.  They then strung it onto a piece of curling ribbon so it could be worn by dad.

Literacy Extensions:
- After reading My Father the Dog, have your child compare their dad with different types of animals.
- Child and father can work together to build a house out of a cardboard box like in Nelly Gnu and Daddy Too.

Mommy Story Time: May 8-9, 2017

Craft: MOM Heart Necklace
Children colored three small hearts that spelled out "MOM".  They then strung the hearts onto curling ribbon along with pony beads to make a necklace.

Literacy Extensions:
- You can use the books Llama Llama Red Pajama or Mama's Coming Home to start a discussion with your child about patience.  Talk about how it is difficult to be patient at times and maybe come up with some strategies to help be more patient.
- After reading My Monster Mama Loves Me So, have your child point out similarities and differences between the monster mama and their mom.

My Family Story Time: May 1-2, 2017

Craft: Family Tree
The kids colored a sheet with a tree outline on it before gluing on leaves with their family member's names on them.


Literacy Extensions:
- After reading My Dog Is As Smelly As Dirty Socks, have your child create a family portrait using pictures from magazines as descriptive parts of the family.
- Discuss with your child the different types of family relationships and how those people relate to them (i.e. - parent, daughter, son, aunt, uncle, cousin, etc.)
