The Moon Story Time: March 26-27, 2018

Craft: Name Rocket
This week's craft was based on the picture at left.  The children colored a sheet with the moon and earth on it.  They then wrote their name on colored squares of paper.  They then glued their name to the sheet along with a triangle for the rocket top.

Literacy Extensions:
- Hello, Moon! asks questions of the moon.  Extend the book by having your child answer the questions for the moon.  You could also ask your child to come up with more questions for the moon.
- Check out a telescope from the library to view the moon with your child.

Star Story Time: March 19-20, 2018

Craft: Telescope
This week's craft is based on the picture above.  The children colored a half-sheet of cardstock before gluing into a cylinder.  They could then decorate their telescope with star stickers.  (You might need to use tape to reinforce the glue on the telescope.)

Literacy Extensions:
- Learn about the various constellations.  There are several great books about constellations for young children.
- Visit the St. Louis Planetarium to learn more about the night sky.

Rainbow Story Time: March 12-13, 2018

Craft: Rainbow Coloring Sheet & Collage
The children colored a page with a sun, rainbow, and pot of gold.  They then glued small squares of colored paper onto the rainbow.


Literacy Extensions:
- Practice color recognition.  Ask your child to find objects nearby of particular colors.
- Use a prism to make rainbows.  You can either purchase a prism or make a homemade one with a glass of water in the sunlight.

Clouds Story Time: March 4-5, 2018

Craft: Thunder Cloud Man
The children were given a cloud cutout and four lightning bolts to color.  They then glued the lightning bolts to the cloud for arms and legs.

Literacy Extensions:
- Learn about the rain cycle. There are several great books for children teaching the the basics of the rain cycle.
- Spend some time with your child cloud gazing.  Look for different types of clouds and determine what shapes they are making.
