Dragons Story Time: August 26 (Outdoors) & August 27 (Virtual), 2021

Craft:  Dragon (Mask)
- Print template onto heavy paper or cardstock
- Color dragon and cut out
- Cut red and yellow tissue paper or crepe paper into 6" strips and glue below dragon's mouth for fire
- Optional:  Cut out dragon's eyes to turn into a mask





Extension Activities:
- Listen to the song "Puff the Magic Dragon".
- Go on a "dragon egg" hunt.  Place small treasures (i.e. candy, coin, play jewel, etc) into Easter eggs.  Hide the eggs and see if your children can find the dragon's eggs and treasure.

Craft: Tiger Mask
- Cut the inner part of a paper plate out so you have just the outer ring.  Color the ring as the tiger's face.
- Cut out and color two eyes and a nose to glue to the top part of the face.
- Cut out eight long triangles to glue to the inside of the ring for teeth.
- Cut out approximately 30 (total) black and orange rectangles to glue around the outside of the ring for the tiger's stripes.




Extension Activities:
- Tigers are commonly orange and black.  Ask your child to name other things that are orange and black (i.e. construction cones, monarch butterflies, etc.).  Maybe go on a scavenger hunt to find items that are those colors.
- Visit the zoo to view and learn more about tigers.

Craft: Duck Headband
- Cut two wide strips for heavy paper or cardstock. Color yellow and add eyes. Glue together to make a headband.
- Cut out a large triangle and color for a beak.  Glue to front of headband underneath eyes.
- Trace hand three times and cut out for two wings and a tailfeather.  Color.
- Glue wings to sides of headband
- Glue tailfeather to back of headband



Extension Activities:
- Have a rubber duckie race.  Mark the ducks so you know whose is whose.  Then set them free at one end of the tub.  See whose duck will reach the other end first without touching it with any hands.
- Play a game of Duck, Duck, Goose.  (If it is hot outside, play a variation of the game called Duck, Duck, Splash.  Instead of tapping the person who is Goose, you dump a cup of water on them while calling out Splash.)

Craft: Bear Card
- Print template on heavy paper or cardstock and cut out.
- Fold bear in half so face is showing on top.
- Color bear's face and ears.
- Glue ears to top back of card.
- Optional: Glue pompom (nose) and googily eyes onto bear's face.
- Optional: Write a message on the inside of the card and give to someone.




Extension Activities:
- Visit the zoo to see the different kids of bears making sure to read the plaques and learn about them.
- Make a "Bear in His Cave" snack treat to eat.  Using icing, assemble three graham crackers into a standing triangle.  Then place a standing teddy graham into the cave with icing.  (https://www.pre-kpages.com/going-bear-hunt-snack-preschool/)
