The Alphabet: "D" -- 1/25/22

Craft: D is for Dinosaur
- Print out template onto heavy paper or cardstock
- Color pieces (D body, head, tail, feet, and spikes)
- Cut out pieces
- Turn D onto side to make dinosaur's body
- Glue head to one side and tail to other side of body
- Glue feet to bottom of body
- Glue spikes to top of body

Extension Activities:
- Practice rhythm with drumming.  Drum a simple beat and ask your child to repeat it.  Also, Musication on YouTube has a lot of great videos where kids can drum along to the beat.
- Discuss dog safety and best practices for dealing with new dogs with your child.

Craft: C is for Crab
- Print out template on cardstock or heavy paper.
- Cut out pieces (C, eyestalks, and pinchers).
- Color pieces.
- Turn C sideways so opening at bottom.
- Glue pinchers to sides.
- Glue eyestalks to top.


Extension Activities:
- Make a collage of items that start with the letter C.  Let your child cut out pictures from a magazine or draw items that start with the letter C and arrange on a piece of paper to make a collage.  Don't worry if they pick items that start with the letter K.  Both letters can have the same sound.  Simply mention it and move on to the next item.
- As "clock" starts with the letter C, this is a great time to explain what a clock looks like and the basics of telling time.

Craft: B Is for Butterfly
- Draw a letter "B" on heavy paper or cardstock and cut out.  (Do not cut out the centers of the B.)
- Glue the B's back to back to make butterfly wings and color.
- Cut out a long oval for butterfly's body.  Color.
- Glue body to center of wings.




Extension Activities:
- Enjoy a "B" snack -- Bugs on a Bed.  Use a piece of toasted Bread for the bed.  Spread nut Butter on the bread for the sheets.  Then add Blueberries for the bugs.
- Make a drawing using only colors that start with the letter B -- brown, blue, black, etc.

Craft: A Is for Astronaut
- Print template on heavy paper or cardstock
- Cut out pieces (A, arms, shoes, helmet)
- Color pieces and add facial features to helmet's face
- Glue shoes to bottom legs of A
- Glue helmet to top point of A
- Glue arms to sides



Extension Activites:
- Practice letter recognition.  Ask your child to point out all the letter "A"s on a page.
- Make "Ants on a Log" for a snack.  Fill a piece of celery with peanut butter or other spread.  Add raisins on top of spread for ants.
