Craft: Melting Snowman Picture
This week's craft is pictured to the left.  Children glued squares of white paper to colored paper to make a melted snowman.  They then could color and glue a hat, two eyes, a nose, and two branch arms to the picture.

Extension Activities --
- Build a snowman.  If you do not have snow outside, you can do a human snowman with plastic trash bags or toilet paper.
- Snowmen at Night and Snowman All Year imagines what snowmen might do for fun.  Ask your child to imagine what their snowman might do throughout the day.

Snow Play Story Time: January 22, 2019

Books:
Bear & Hare: Snow! by Emily Gravett *
Hello, Snow! by Hope Vestergaard
Snowball Fight! by Jimmy Fallon
Snowbots by Aaron Reynolds
The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats *
Winter Woes by Marty Kelley *

Craft: Snowy Day Picture
This week's craft was based on The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats.  Kids were given a sheet of blue paper to glue on cotton balls for snow.  They then colored a child in a snowsuit cutout and glued it onto the picture.

Extension Activities:
- Go out and play in the snow!  Use this opportunity to talk about why we have to bundle up to go outside.
- If it's too cold to play outside, have an indoor snowball fight.  Crumple up used paper into wadded up paper snowballs and then have fun.

Notes --
- When gluing on cotton balls, remind your child to put the glue on the paper not the cotton balls.  This saves the glue for future use.
- Story Time was not held on Monday, January 23, 2019 as the library was closed in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Winter Animals Story Time: January 14-15, 2019

Books:
Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson *
Froggy Gets Dressed by Jonathon London *
Sleepover with Beatrice & Bear by Monica Carnesi
Snow Rabbit, Spring Rabbit by Il Sung Na
When Winter Comes by Nancy Van Laan *

Craft: Mouse
Our craft this week was based on the picture at left with several changes.  The children colored a mouse cutout that had 2 small slits cut in the body.  They then twisted together 2 half pieces of pipe cleaner together and inserted it in the slits to make the mouse's tail.

Extension Activities:
- Take a winter walk to see if you can find some animals.  If it has snowed, look for animal prints in the snow.  See if you can figure out which animal it is from the prints.
- Make a coloring book of winter animals.  Find coloring sheets of various winter animals to staple together into a coloring book.  Ask your child which of the animals hibernate and which ones don't.

Going on a dino hunt.
I'm not a afraid.
There's a tall mountain.
Can't go under it.
Can't go around it.
Guess we'll go over it.
Going on a dino hunt.
I'm not afraid.
There's a river.
Can't go over it.
Can't go under it.
Guess we'll swim across it.
Going on a dino hunt.
I'm not afraid.
There's some tall grass.
Can't go over it.
Can't go around it.
Guess we'll go through it.
Going on a dino hunt.
I'm not afraid.
There's a cave.
Can't go over it.
Can't go under it.
Guess we'll go in it.
I feel some scales.
I feel some big teeth!
Oooooh! It's a dinosaur!
Run out of the cave (running motion)
Go through the grass (parting motion)
Swim across the river (swimming motion)
Climb the mountain (climbing motion)
Run, hope (running motion)
Open the door (opening motion)
Jump into bed.
I went on a dino hunt (clapping rhythm until end)
And I wasn't afraid!
