Acorns -- 11/7/23

Story Times are held weekly on Monday and Tuesday mornings at 10:00 am. A monthly virtual Story Time is posted the first Tuesday of the month on the library's Facebook page.  It is available to view for one month before the next video is posted.

Craft: Acorn Man
- Cut out an oval, acorn cap, and eyes from cardstock or heavy paper
- Color pieces
- Glue pieces together as shown in picture at left
- Cut four small pieces of pipe cleaner and tape to back for arms and legs





Extension Activities:
- Have an acorn rolling contest.  See who can roll their acorn across the distance first.
- Go on a nature walk to see if you can find any acorns.  Who can find the most?

Learning Review Story Time: August 26-27, 2019

Books:

Craft: Megaphone
The children colored the megaphone cutout before gluing it into a cylinder.  A handle was then glued into a circle and taped onto the megaphone.

Extension Activities:
- Take a field trip to a museum for some educational fun (i.e. Magic House (science), Art Museum, History Museum, etc.)
- Find out what your child is interested in learning about.  Check out some books on that topic from the library.

Snowmen Story Time: January 28-29, 2018

Craft: Melting Snowman Picture
This week's craft is pictured to the left.  Children glued squares of white paper to colored paper to make a melted snowman.  They then could color and glue a hat, two eyes, a nose, and two branch arms to the picture.

Extension Activities --
- Build a snowman.  If you do not have snow outside, you can do a human snowman with plastic trash bags or toilet paper.
- Snowmen at Night and Snowman All Year imagines what snowmen might do for fun.  Ask your child to imagine what their snowman might do throughout the day.

Building Block Award Nominees Story Time - Week 3: September 18-19, 2017

Books:
10 Little Ninjas by Miranda Paul *
Marta! Big and Small by Jen Arena *
There's a Bear on My Chair by Ross Collins *
There's a Giraffe in My Soup by Ross Burach *

Craft: Bear Headband
The children were given a bear head to color before gluing strips to it to make into a headband.

Literacy Extensions:
- Marta! Big and Small is a great way to introduce the Spanish language to children.  Check out a Spanish/English picture dictionary and see if your child can guess the meaning of the Spanish words.
- Ask your child to stretch their imagination by coming up with new verses to 10 Little Ninjas.

Notes:
There's a Giraffe in My Soup was only read on Monday as the Tuesday story time group heard the book earlier this month.
