Craft:  Dinosaur Hat
- Cut out two 2-1/2"x11" strips from green paper.  Glue into one long strip.
- Draw eyes and nose onto large strip to make head.
- Cut out five large triangles (around 3") from red paper.  Glue to top of long strip over facial features as spikes.
- Cut out eight small triangles (around 1") from white paper.  Glue to bottom of long strip under facial features as teeth.
- Glue long strip into circle to make a headband.


Extension Activities:
- Learn about different types of dinosaurs.  There are a lot of great nonfiction books on dinosaurs at the library.  Try to pick your favorite dinosaur.
- Visit the St. Louis Science Center to learn more about dinosaurs.
- Pretend play by pretending to be dinosaurs.  Ask your child to do different kind of dinosaur walks.

Craft: Farm Animal Finger Puppets
- Print out template on heavy paper or cardstock
- Color farm animals
- Cut out animal puppets
- Glue band at bottom of puppet into ring to fit onto finger


Extension Activities:
- Visit a petting zoo or farm to see different farm animals.
- Engage in pretend play by acting like different farm animals.  Ask your child to move and speak like those animals.

Craft: Folded Dog
- Cut out two 4" squares of paper
- Fold both squares in half to make triangles
- Fold corners of first triangle down to make face and ears
- Fold corners of second triangle towards center and back to outside to make body and legs
- Glue head to body
- Color dog



Extension Activites:
- Go on a field trip to a zoo, petting zoo, or farm.  As you visit the different animals have your child make the sounds of that animal.
- Play a game of Simon Says with animal sounds.

Craft: There Was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe
- Print out template on heavy paper / cardstock
- Cut out shoe, woman, and kids
- Color pieces
- Glue woman and kids to shoe
- Hole punch 4-6 holes along side of shoe
- Lace yarn through holes and tie at top




Extension Activities:
- Practice lacing and tying shoes with your child.
- Today's book is just one version of the popular "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe" rhyme.  Try to write your own version of the rhyme with your child.

Craft: Star Mobile
- Print out template on heavy paper or cardstock.
- Color spiral and cut out.
- Cut out stars and decorate with crayons, sparkles, etc.
- Tape stars to short 3-4" pieces of yarn or ribbon.  Then tape the yarn to the spiral in intervals.
- Hang spiral so center piece as at top and stars hang down.




Extension Activities:
- Explore the night sky.  Count the stars.  Try to find constellations.  View the sky through a telescope.
- Have fun by making star shaped food using a star cookie cutter.  You could make and decorate cookies.  You could also cut sandwiches into the shapes of stars.
