Craft: Triangle Folded Dog

- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper

- Cut out pieces (head, body)

- Color pieces

- Fold down along lines to make ears on head

- Fold along inner lines toward center and then along the outer lines to the outside so dog will stand

- Glue head to body

Extension Activities:

- Alison Murray likes to write and illustrate new versions of familiar rhymes and stories.  Read the traditional nursery rhymes and folk tales to compare them with her versions.  Which do you like better?  Why?

- Today's books all include dogs in the stories.  Visit a local animal shelter to volunteer with the dogs.  Different activities to volunteer for include reading with the dogs or petting them for socialization.

- Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs is a variation on the traditional Goldilocks and the Three Bears tale.  Have your child write their own variation of the tale using another type of animal.

- Come up with new verses for The Wheels on the Bus.  How many different actions can you come up with?

Craft: Star Mobile

- Print out template on heavy paper or cardstock.

- Color spiral and cut out.

- Cut out stars and decorate with crayons, sparkles, etc.

- Tape stars to short 3-4" pieces of yarn or ribbon.  Then tape the yarn to the spiral in intervals.

- Hang spiral so center piece as at top and stars hang down.

Extension Activities:

- Explore the night sky.  Count the stars.  Try to find constellations.  View the sky through a telescope.

- Have fun by making star shaped food using a star cookie cutter.  You could make and decorate cookies.  You could also cut sandwiches into the shapes of stars.

Craft: Hickory Dickory Clock
The picture to the left was my inspiration for this week's craft.  I printed out a clock face and a clock pendulum for the kids to color and then glue to a paper lunch bag.  I also cut out a mouse body for them to color.  The tail was a piece of yarn tied to a paperclip which was then taped to the back of the mouse's body.  The kids could then clip the mouse onto the edge of the paper bag and "run" it up and down the clock.

Literacy Extensions:
- Discuss how your child thinks animals might play different musical instruments like in Hey Diddle Diddle.
- With your child, make up your own Completed Hickory Dickory Dock coming up with different activities the mouse could do throughout the day.

Craft: Clothespin Sheep
Children glued white tissue paper squares to a cutout sheep shape.  Two clothespins were clipped at the bottom so the lamb could stand on its legs.
