Craft: Triceratops Crown
- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper
- Cut out pieces (head, strips)
- Color pieces
- Glue pieces together into crown




Extension Activities:
- Have fun changing up the Goldilocks story.  Replace the characters, food, furniture and see how it would change the story.

Craft: Bear Headband
- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper
- Cut out pieces (face/ears and 2 extra strips)
- Color pieces
- Glue, tape, or staple strips together to fit child's head


Extension Activities:
- Learn about different types of bears.  Check out one of the nonfiction bear books from the library or visit the zoo.
- Take a field trip to a local amusement park.  What rides do you like?  What rides do you not like?

Craft: Pterodactyl Headband
- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper
- Cut out pieces and color
- Cut two long strips of paper and glue into headband
- Glue head to front of headband
- Glue wings to side and fold so they flap outwards


Extension Activities:
- Focus on fine motor skills by having your child "rescue" a dinosaur.  Wrap several small rubber bands around a larger toy dinosaur.  Then have your child unwrap the rubber bands to "save" it.
- Create a Dinosaur Hopscotch board.  Use chalk to draw a hopscotch board outside.  Include other activities in the board such as Dinosaur Stomps, Dinosaur Hops, etc.

Craft: Fox Headband
- Print template (at left) onto cardstock or heavy paper
- Cut out fox head and color
- Cut two long strips and glue together
- Glue strips to fox head to fit child's head




Extension Activities:
- Collect some fallen leaves.  Make a collage out of the leaves or do some leaf painting with them.
- Go on a nature walk through a forest.  Have your child point out any animals they see.

Craft: Unicorn Headband
- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper and cut out
- Cut out 1-2  long strips of cardstock or heavy paper
- Color unicorn horn and strips
- Glue unicorn horn and 1-2 strips into headband to fit child's head




Extension Activities:
- After reading all ten of the Missouri Building Block Picture Book Award nominee books, vote for your choice for the award at Missouri Library Association - Building Block Award (molib.org).
- Extend the book Cows Go Boo by adding more farm animals to the story.

Craft: Duck Headband
- Cut two wide strips for heavy paper or cardstock. Color yellow and add eyes. Glue together to make a headband.
- Cut out a large triangle and color for a beak.  Glue to front of headband underneath eyes.
- Trace hand three times and cut out for two wings and a tailfeather.  Color.
- Glue wings to sides of headband
- Glue tailfeather to back of headband



Extension Activities:
- Have a rubber duckie race.  Mark the ducks so you know whose is whose.  Then set them free at one end of the tub.  See whose duck will reach the other end first without touching it with any hands.
- Play a game of Duck, Duck, Goose.  (If it is hot outside, play a variation of the game called Duck, Duck, Splash.  Instead of tapping the person who is Goose, you dump a cup of water on them while calling out Splash.)

Craft: Lion Headband
Children colored a lion head on a strip of cardstock.  A second strip of paper was glued to it to turn into a headband.

Extension Activities:
- This week's letter is "L".  Ask your child to point out the Ls on the page as you are reading.
- Visit a zoo to learn more about lions and other animals.

Craft: Shorty Headband
The children colored a half sheet template of Shorty's face before gluing on three tetth and strips to the back to make into a headband.

Literacy Extensions:
- Groovy Joe promotes sharing.  Do a survey with your child of which foods they would share with others.
- After reading Shorty & Clem, talk about mail and how the postal system works.

Easter Story Time: June 27-28, 2016

Craft: Easter Bunny Headband
Our craft was based on the picture at left.  Kids colored ears, headband strips, and nose/teeth before gluing the pieces together to make into a bunny headband.  The kids could also glue on tissue paper onto the ears if they liked.

Literacy Extensions:
- After reading Piggy Bunny, name other animals and have your child give you reasons why or why not they could become the Easter Bunny.
- Following the directions in The Easter Bunny's Assistant, make Easter eggs with your child.
