Craft: Good Egg Puzzle
- Print template at left onto cardstock or heavy paper
- Color sheet
- Cut along grid lines to make a 20 piece puzzle

Extension Activities:
- Puns are a type wordplay that uses words with more than one meaning.  Give your child a couple of multi-meaning words and see if they can tell you the different meanings and then try to make a pun out using the word.
- Tying knots is a skill that every child should learn.  Practice tying simple knots.  Watch this video for a simple lesson on how to tie a knot using pipecleaners.

Best of 2017 Story Time: January 16, 2017

Books:
The Bad Seed by Jory John *
Mosquitoes Can't Bite Ninjas by Jordan P. Novak *
Sloppy Wants a Hug by Sean Julian *

Craft: Ninja
This week's craft was based on the picture at left.  The children were given a half sheet of cardstock with just eyes to color.  They then glued the sheet into a tube.  A pipe cleaner was twisted around the center of the tube for a belt.  A coffee stirrer was then slipped into the belt for the ninja's staff.

Literacy Extensions:
- In Mosquitoes Can't Bite Ninjas, the ninja fights off a mosquito with chopsticks.  Practice hand-eye coordination and hand dexterity by learning how to use chopsticks.  Try picking up various objects with the chopsticks.
- After reading The Bad Seed, try some sunflower seeds.

Our Favorite Books of 2015: December 14-15, 2015

Books:
Bunnies!!! by Kevan Atteberry *
I Will Chomp You! by Jory John *
Leo: A Ghost Story by Mac Barnett
Lizard from the Park by Mark Pett
Rory the Dinosaur: Me and My Dad by Liz Climo *

Craft: Cupcake
This week the kids decorated a cardstock cupcake with crayons and sparkles.  They could then either attach a magnet to the back or a piece of string to turn it into an ornament for their Christmas trees.  (The template for the cupcakes is below.)

Literacy Extensions:
- Last week's tip was to talk about your child's favorite things.  This week see if your child can express why something is their favorite.  For example, their favorite fruit might be bananas because they like the taste and they are fun to peel and squishy to eat.
- After reading Rory and the Dinosaur, talk about things your child can do themselves and things they might need a little help with yet.
