Craft: Heart Wreath
- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper

- Cut out wreath.  After cutting out large circle, gently fold in half to cut center solid lines.

- Color wreath.  Color back if you would like the wreath to have a colored background.

- Fold triangles down on dotted lines.

- Fold small triangles and glue around edge of outer circle to make wreath.

- Optional:  Fold triangles up on dotted lines to make a crown with points sticking up.

Extension Activities:

- Do some pink painting with strawberries.  Cut the tops off of strawberries and press down to make pink patterns.

- Make a simple pink worm craft.  Slide pink pony beads onto a pink pipecleaner.

Craft: Flapping Bird
- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper

- Cut out pieces (wings, body)

- Color pieces

- Fold wings along dotted lines

- Glue wings onto bird's body at marked location so wings will "flap"

Extension Activities:

- The birds in Oddbird are very concerned with their appearance and being colorful.  Ask your child to assemble an outfit that would impress the birds at the beginning of the book.

- Visit the St. Louis Zoo to view all the different types of birds.

Red & Pink Story Time: March 2-3, 2020

Craft: Loop Ladybug
This week's craft is based on the picture at left.  The kids colored a strip of cardstock as well as a circle head.  The strip was glued into a loop.  The head was glued onto the loop as well as sequins as spots.  Half of a pipe cleaner was threaded through holes in the head to make the antennae.

Extension Activities:
- Practice color recognition by having your child go through the house pointing out the different items that are red or pink.
- Have fun with ice painting.  Freeze colored water in ice trays with a popsicle stick stuck in them.  Kids can then "paint" with the frozen water.  Colors can be mixed as the ice starts to melt.

Craft: Triceratops Puppet
Children colored a triceratops head and two feet before gluing onto a paper bag to turn into a puppet.

Literacy Extensions:
- All of this week's books feature animals eating.  Research what these animals really eat by checking out some nonfiction animal books at the library.
- Some restaurants will give tours of their kitchens to groups of children.  Check with your favorite local restaurants and see if they are willing to do this for your child and their friends.

Notes:
This is the first in a series of story times on being Naughty or Nice.  As you read the stories with your child, have them point out the naughty behaviors and the nice behaviors.

The kids colored a cardstock flamingo cutout before taping on a pipe cleaner that was folded in half to the back of the flamingo for its legs.
