Story Times are held weekly on Monday and Tuesday mornings at 10:00 am. A monthly virtual Story Time is posted the first Tuesday of the month on the library's Facebook page.  It is available to view for one month before the next video is posted.

Craft:  Apple Tree

- Cut out a circle for a tree top and color it green

- Glue red sequins to the circle for apples

- Color clothespin as trunk

- Clip clothespin to bottom of tree top

Extension Activities:

- Visit an apple farm or orchard to go apple picking.

- Taste test several different kinds of apples to see which is your favorite.

Craft: Four Seasons Tree

- Print template (You will need four trees total.)

- Color trees (It is recommended you color each tree as in a different season.)

- Cut out trees

- Fold trees in half longways so color is on the inside

- Glue each folded tree to each other so that when it is all together you go through the seasons when turning the tree

Extension Activities:

- Go on a nature walk to look at different types of trees.  

- Make some tree rubbings by placing paper on top of bark, leaf, etc. and coloring on entire paper.

Craft: Standing Apple Tree
This week's craft is based on the picture at left.  The children colored a quarter sheet of cardstock, rolled, and glued it to make into a tree trunk.  I then cut two slits in the top of the roll.  The kids then colored a cloud shape and glued on red tissue paper pieces as apples.  This makes the tree top.  The top was slid into the slits so the tree could stand.

Extension Activities:
- Conduct a taste test.  Try several different types of apples to see which your child/family likes best.
- Visit an apple farm to pick apples.

Craft: Apple
This weeks' craft was based on the picture above.  The children colored pre-cut apple tops and bottoms, leaf and stem.  They then glued them to ends three jumbo craft sticks making up the apple core.  Seeds could be colored on to the craft sticks.

Literacy Extensions:
- Go on a field trip to pick apples.
- Try different types of apples and see which kinds are your family's favorites.


Notes:
We found that the craft was easier to make if we taped the craft sticks together so they didn't move around while working with them.  We used masking tape at the top and bottom to tape them together.

Craft: Paper Plate Apple
Our craft this week was very similar to the picture at left.  The children chose either a red, green, or yellow sheet of paper to rip into pieces.  They then glued them to a large paper plate.  The final step was to color and then glue a stem and leaf onto the top of the plate.

Literacy Extensions:
- It's the season to go apple picking.  Learn about how apples are grown before going apple picking with your child.
- Explore a little math with your child by having them poll the people they know to see what their favorite color of apple is.  Then make a chart of the results.


Notes:
The book Found an Apple can be sung to the tune of "Oh My Darling Clementine".

Craft: Bouquet of Tulips
The children were each given four tulip heads to color and glue to craft sticks.  They were then placed into a mini-styrofoam  cup.  They could write their name or a short message for Mother's Day that was then placed on the cup.

Literacy Extensions:
- After reading Tap the Magic Tree, learn about different types of trees.  Check out a tree identification book at the library before going on a nature walk and trying to identify the different types of trees in your neighborhood.
- Play with sounds.  Both Clickety Clack and Whoosh and Chug! feature sounds made by different objects.  Make a game of coming up with the sounds made by different objects.
