Books:
I Stink! by Kate McMullan *
Supertruck by Stephen Saveage *
Trashy Town by Andrea Zimmerman *
Craft: Paper Plate Oscar the Grouch
The kids covered a small paper plate with green paper squares. They then colored cutouts of Oscar's eyes/eyebrow and mouth before gluing them on the plate also to make Oscar's face.
Literacy Extensions:
- I Stink! gives an alphabetical listing of items found in the trash. See if your child can come up with another alphabetical listing of trash items without using the same ones.
- Many trash companies also pick up recycling. Discuss with your child things that can be recycled and things that should be thrown in the trash.

Teacher Story Time: April 16-17, 2018
Books:
Here Comes Teacher Cat by Deborah Underwood *
My Creature Teacher by Laura Leuck
My Teacher Is a Monster! No, I Am Not. by Peter Brown
The Teacher from the Black Lagoon by Mike Thaler
Teacher! Sharing, Helping, Caring by Patricia Hubbell *
This Is NOT a Cat! by David LaRochelle *
Craft: Schoolhouse
The kids were given a two-sided opening schoolhouse on cardstock to color.
Literacy Extensions:
- Children love to play "school". Have your child be the teacher who is going over learning concepts (i.e. - alphabet, numbers, colors, etc.) with you as a student. This is a great way to review those concepts.
- Visit the school your child will be attending in the future. Ask for a tour of the building and to possibly meet with some of the teachers and workers in that building.

Police Officer Story Time: April 9-10, 2018
Books:
Bug Patrol by Denise Dowling Mortensen
The Police Cloud by Christoph Niemann *
Police Officers on Patrol by Kersten Hamilton
Traffic Pups by Michelle Meadows *
Craft: Police Officer
This week's craft is pictured at left. The children were given a uniform and hat to color. They then colored a circle cutout as their face and glued all three pieces together. They could then add either a gold or silver sticker as a badge. As an option at home, they could cut a photo of themselves and glue over the circle to make themselves the police officer.
Literacy Extensions:
- Call your local police station to see if they allow visitors and would give a tour to your family.
- Talk about safety issues with your child (i.e. - stranger danger, street safety, etc.)
