New Picture Books 2024: Week 3 -- 12/17/24

Story Times are held weekly on Monday and Tuesday mornings at 10:00 am. A monthly virtual Story Time is posted the first Tuesday of the month on the library's Facebook page.  It is available to view for one month before the next video is posted.

Click HERE for this month's virtual Story Time.

The Walk of the Field Mouse by Nadine Robert

Craft:  Moose
- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper
- Color and cut out pieces (head, body, tail)
- Glue pieces together as shown in picture at left

Extension Activities:
- Sing the song "Old MacDonald Had a Farm".  Let your child suggest animals to include on the farm and have them come up with their sounds.
- We've been sharing some of our favorite picture books from this past year.  Ask your child what their favorite picture books are.  Which books would they choose for a "favorites" story time.

Teacher Story Time: April 16-17, 2018

Books:
Here Comes Teacher Cat by Deborah Underwood *
My Creature Teacher by Laura Leuck
My Teacher Is a Monster! No, I Am Not. by Peter Brown
The Teacher from the Black Lagoon by Mike Thaler
Teacher! Sharing, Helping, Caring by Patricia Hubbell *
This Is NOT a Cat! by David LaRochelle *

Craft: Schoolhouse
The kids were given a two-sided opening schoolhouse on cardstock to color.

Literacy Extensions:
- Children love to play "school".  Have your child be the teacher who is going over learning concepts (i.e. - alphabet, numbers, colors, etc.) with you as a student.  This is a great way to review those concepts.
- Visit the school your child will be attending in the future.  Ask for a tour of the building and to possibly meet with some of the teachers and workers in that building.

Copy the two sides back-to-back to get a double-sided opening schoolhouse.

Valentine's Day Story Time: February 12-13. 2018

Books:
Here Comes Valentine Cat by Deborah Underwood *
If You'll Be My Valentine by Cynthia Rylant *
Love Monster by Rachel Bright
Mr. Goat's Valentine by Eve Bunting
The Night Before Valentine's Day by Natasha Wing

Craft: Love Bug
The children colored a large heart as bug wings and glued to a used CD-rom.  An oval was decorated as the head and glued at the point of the heart.  Sequins could be glued on to decorate their love bug.

Literacy Extensions:
- Practice writing skills by having your child write out valentines.  Have them write their names and possibly "I Love You" or "XOXO".
- When reading If You'll Be My Valentine, turn it into a guessing game.  Have your child guess to whom the boy is giving the various valentines.

Princess Story Time: November 16-17, 2015

Books:
Not All Princesses Dress in Pink by Jane Yolen
Princess in Training by Tammi Sauer
Part-Time Princess by Deborah Underwood *
Princess Palooza by Joy Allen *
Princess Penelope and the Runaway Kitten by Alison Murray *
Princess Says Goodnight by Naomi Howland

Craft: Crown
I found a crown template online.  (There are plenty to choose from.)  The kids colored and then glued sequins to the crowns.  Strips of yellow paper were glued to the back so the kids could wear the crown.

Literacy Extensions:
- After reading Princess Palooza, have your child design their favorite princess (i.e. sports princess, cooking princess, etc.)
- Pick a famous princess from history and learn a little about them.
