Learning Concepts: All About Me -- 8/26/25

Story Times are held weekly on Monday and Tuesday mornings at 10:00 am. A monthly virtual Story Time is posted the first Tuesday of the month on the library's Facebook page.  It is available to view for one month before the next video is posted.

Craft: Sunny All About Me   
- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper

- Cut out pieces (center circle, rays)

- Color center with child's name or picture

- Decorate rays as directed and color
- Glue rays to center to make sun

Extension Activities:

- Make a self-portrait.  Have a variety of art and collage supplies for the children to use to make their portraits.

- Play a game of charades using emotions.

Bears Story Time: November 28-29, 2016

Craft: Standing Bear
The children were given a bear cutout to color.  The legs were then bent down so the bear could stand.

Literacy Extensions:
- Discuss hibernation after reading Shh! Bears Sleeping or Every Autumn Comes the Bear.  See if your child can guess which animals hibernate during the winter.
- We've now read about four different animals that live in the forest this month.  See how many other animals your child can list that lives in the woods.

Hands & Fingers Story Time: November 10, 2014

Craft: Handprint Butterfly
This week's craft was based on the picture to the left.  Each child was given a sheet of paper with a butterfly body on it.  They then traced their hands on either side of the body.  They could then color in the handprints and glue on sparkles.

Literacy Extensions:
- See how many activities your child can come up with that they need to use their hands for (ex. pointing, writing, etc.)
- Have your child trace his/her handprint onto several pieces of paper.  See how many different animals they can make out of their handprints.

Notes:
Story time was only held on Monday this week due to the library being closed for Veteran's Day.

The books all went over pretty good this week.  I probably would not do Wash Your Hands! again though.  While the children were engrossed by the story, there were some that were grossed out by the idea of small crocodile-like germs on their hands.
