Owls Story Time -- Outdoor 6/7/21 and Virtual 6/8/21

Outdoor Story Times are held weekly on Monday mornings at 10:00 am and 11:00 am.  (Registration is required to attend.)  Online Story Times will be posted weekly on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 am.  (The video is available to watch for one week before a new one is uploaded.)

Craft:  Owl
- Print template of owl on heavy paper and cut out pieces
- Color pieces of owl (body, wings, eyes, beak)
- Glue pieces together following picture at left as a guide
- Optional:  Add sparkles or tissue paper for extra decoration






Extension Activities:
- Visit the Wild Bird Sanctuary to learn more about owls and other birds.
- Go on a nature walk to look for different birds.  Can you name them?

Owls Story Time: November 7-8, 2016

Craft: Owl Picture
This week's craft is pictured at left.  The children were given the outline of an owl on a piece of paper.  They then glued on tissue paper feathers, brown wings, eyes, and a yellow beak to finish their owl.

Literacy Extensions:
- After reading Hoot Owl, see if your child can continue the story by coming up with costumes Hoot Owl could use to catch other animals.
- Learn more about owls.  Informational books on owls are available at the library.  Or visit the Wild Bird Sanctuary in St. Louis.

Costume Story Time: March 21-22, 2016

Turtle's Penguin Day by Valeri Gorbachev *

Craft: Owl Headband
The craft is pictured at left.  The children colored an owl head and two wings cut from cardstock before gluing to 1" strips of paper to make into a headband.

Literacy Extensions:
- After reading Hoot Owl, come up with various costumes you might use to catch different types of animals.
- Like Little Turtle in Turtle's Penguin Day, try various activities to simulate the animal you are currently reading about.

Our Favorite Books of 2015: December 7-8, 2015

Everyone Loves Bacon by Kelly DiPuccio *

Peanut Butter & Brains by Joe McGee

Craft: Paper Plate Owl
Our craft was based the picture at left.  The kids were given a small paper plate and two feet, two eyes, and a beak cut from cardstock.  They colored the plate before folding and gluing it as shown in the picture.

Literacy Extensions:
- Talk about the word favorite and what it means.  Have your child tell your various favorite things such as food, book, game, etc.
- After reading Everyone Loves Bacon, see if your child can tell a similar story using their favorite food.
