Craft: Hippo

- Print template on heavy paper or cardstock

- Color and cut out pieces (hippo body, ears, arms, feet)

- Roll and glue body into tube

- Glue ears to top of body

- Glue feet to bottom of body

- Glue arms to sides of body

- Optional:  Glue heart so hippo is holding it

Extension Activities:

- Have a discussion with your child about how we all need help sometimes.  Ask what they need help doing.  Then ask your child what they could help their parents with.

- Hold a family game night.  Play some favorite board games or classic outdoor games such as tag, hide and seek, etc.

Craft: H Is for Hippo
This week's craft was based on the picture at left.  The children colored an uppercase H cutout as well as a hippo head.  They then glued the head to the H.  They could bend the legs to make the hippo stand.

Extension Activities:
- Hippos Go Berserk is a counting book.  Ask your child to count how many hippos are on each page as you go through the book.
- Practice letter recognition by asking your child to point out the letter "H"s as you go through a book.

Craft - Superhero Dad
Each child colored a large gingerbread man cutout with a dad superhero logo printed on it. A paper cape was glued to the back.

Literacy Extensions:
- Practice letter recognition.  Have your child point out the "d" and "a"s in the story's text.
- Talk about ways in which your child father's is the same and different from the dads in the books you read.
