Picture Book Genres: Life Experiences -- 7/12/22

Craft:  Baby in Stroller

- Cut a small paper plate in half and color both pieces

- Glue paper plate pieces together as shown in picture

- Cut out two small circles and color as wheels

- Glue wheels to bottom of stroller as shown

- Cut out a gingerbread person and color as baby

- Glue baby as peeking out of stroller 

Extension Activities:

- Children love to play pretend.  Have them pretend play they are in school.  Let them be the teacher and have them "teach" you something.

- Facing new experiences can be scary for children.  That is part of the reason we have the Life Experiences genre of picture books.  Help your child face their fears of new things by reading a related book and talking about how it will affect them.

Craft: CD Penguin
This was a variation of the craft pictured above.  We made ours on old CDs that no longer worked.  We also had all the hearts cut out (body, wings, feet) so all the kids had to do was color the pieces before gluing them to the CD.  They could also add a magnet to the back if they liked.

Literacy Extensions:
- Learn more about penguins and their habitats.  There are several great books on penguins at the library. 
- Use the book Lost and Found to discuss with your child what they should do if they are lost.

Colors Story Time -- Blue: March 4, 2014

Craft: Feather Headband
We made feather handbands so we could be like Chicken Chuck.  Children colored a paper feather that was then glued to narrows strips of paper into a headband.  A large blue sequin was glued to the headband as the blue seed.

- See how many things your child can list that are the color blue.
- Go over animal sounds (i.e. Little Blue Truck)
