Virtual Story Time: Trucks -- June 2024

Each month, Miss Amy records a virtual Story Time that goes along with the monthly theme.  It will be posted monthly in the morning of the first Tuesday of the month.  (The video is available to watch for one month before a new one is uploaded.)

Click HERE for this month's virtual Story Time.

Truck Full of Ducks by Ross Burach

Supertruck by Stephen Savage

Books:
20 Big Trucks in the Middle of the Street by Mark Lee
Five Trucks by Brian Floca
Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle

Trucks Galore by Peter Stein

Extension Activities:
- Play a game of Monster Truck Bowling.  Set up plastic cups as the bowling pins and use monster trucks as the bowling balls.
- Visit your local firehouse for a tour of the fire truck.
- Draw a big maze (outside using sidewalk chalk or inside using masking tape on the floor) and have your child "drive" their truck the maze.  Remote control trucks would be a great option for this activity.

Truck & Tractor Story Time: May 16-17, 2016

Books:
20 Big Trucks in the Middle of the Street by Mark Lee *
Down by the Barn by Will Hillenbrand *
I'm Brave! by Kate McMullan
The Little Dump Truck by Margery Cuyler
McToad Mows Tiny Island by Tom Angleberger
Red Truck by K.R. Hamilton
Tip Tip Dig Dig by Emma Garcia *

Craft: T is for Tractor
The craft for this week is picture above.  The children were given a large T, small T, small L and two circles to color and then glue together into a tractor.

Literacy Extensions:
- Most children assume all tractors are green as John Deere tractors are very common.  Explore different color tractors and learn what companies use what colors.
- After reading I'm Brave, have your child "write" a similar book about another kind of truck or tractor.  Have them give characteristics and list what they do for their job.
