Monkeys -- 9/15/26

Story Times are held weekly on Monday and Tuesday mornings at 10:00 am. A monthly virtual Story Time is posted the first Tuesday of the month on the library's Facebook page.  It is available to view for one month before the next video is posted.

Count the Monkeys by Mac Barnett

Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed by Eileen Christelow

Craft: Monkey

- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper

- Cut out pieces (head, body)

- Cut out four thin long strips of paper for legs

- Cut out one thin extra long strip for tail

- Color all pieces

- Glue pieces to make monkey

- Curl tail if you like

Extension Activities:

- Act out the story of Five Little Monkeys.  Make simple monkey masks for the children to wear as they "jump on the bed" and "fall off".

- Play a classic game -- Barrel of Monkeys.  See how many monkeys you can chain together before the chain breaks.

Craft: Shell with Pearl

- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper

- Cut out template making sure to cut along solid heavy lines at ends of shell

- Color template

- Fold template on center dotted line

- Fold over shell over along the cut heavy line and glue into place.  This will allow the shell to become 3D and be able to "snap" shut.

- Optional: Glue a small pompom to inside of shell as a pearl

Extension Activities:

- Build a sand castle.  Don't live near a beach, visit a park with a sand box.

- Play a game with a beach ball.

Dogs Story Time: April 10-11, 2017

Craft: Dog
The children were given a dog cutout to color.  They could then choose either sequins for spots or yarn for hair to glue to their dog.

Literacy Extensions:
- After reading Dogs, practice counting and math skills by having your child conduct a survey of which kinds of dogs people like. (i.e. - small, big, spotted, hairy, bald, etc.)
- Practice letter recognition by having your child point out all the letter "D"s as you read a book.

Craft: Dog
Children were given a dog cutout to decorate into their favorite type of dog.  Yarn pieces were available in case they wanted a hairy dog.

Literacy Extensions:
- Discuss different types of dogs and their characteristics.  What kind of dog does your child like?  What don't they like?  (i.e. Dogs)
- Practice letter recognition by having your child point out the letter "D" in the story's text.

Craft: Cow Headband
Children colored a cow head cut out from cardstock and then glued it to strips of paper made into a headband.  A cotton ball could be glued to the head for hair.

Literacy Extensions:
- Talk about fears you and your child might have.  Discuss ways to possibly overcome those fears.  (Let's Sing a Lullaby with the Brave Cowboy)
- Discuss how babies need to be treated (i.e. One Special Day)
