Are You a Monster? Story Time -- 10/6/25

Story Times are held weekly on Monday and Tuesday mornings at 10:00 am. A monthly virtual Story Time is posted the first Tuesday of the month on the library's Facebook page.  It is available to view for one month before the next video is posted.

Craft: Ghost
- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper
- Cut out ghost
- Color ghost if like
- Cut five strips of paper (1/2"x5")
- Glue strips to bottom of ghost
- Curl or accordian-fold strips if you like




Extension Activities:
- Make a ghost in a bag.  Draw a face on a ziploc bag with a sharpie.  Then add a small amount of shaving cream into the bag before sealing the bag.  Let the kids squish the bag to make ghost shapes.
- Have fun with some monster Mad Libs.

Craft: Egg Bunny
- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper.
- Color pieces (egg body, ears, bow)
- Glue ears to top of egg body
- Glue bow onto bunny where you would like


Extension Activities:
- Dye Easter eggs with your child.  There are many different ways to dye eggs including the traditional dye, cool whip dye, etc.  Experiment and see which way works best for you.
- Make some Bunny Bait to lure the Easter Bunny to your house.  Bunny Bait is a simple trail mix with popcorn, pretzels, and pastel M&Ms with melted white chocolate drizzled over the top.

Craft: Ghost
- Print out template on heavy paper or cardstock and cut out
- Color ghost's features (eyes and mouth)
- Cut out strips of white paper and glue to bottom of ghost
- Curl or fold strips



Extension Activities:
- Make a Boonana for a snack.  Peel a banana and cut in half.  Stick three chocolate chips onto the top half of the banana for eyes and a mouth. 
- Ghost in the House introduces several different types of monsters.  Have your child act out how those monsters would walk, dance, speak, etc.

Craft: Mummy Treat Bag
- Cut out circles for eyes and glue onto the top of a brown paper lunchbag
- Cut strips of white paper and glue onto bag for mummy strips
- (Optional)  Go trick or treating to fill bag up






Extension Activities:
- Both books are about fears.  Talk with your child about what things they are scared of.  Then come up with ideas to help settle those fears.
- Ask your child to come up with a Halloween costume using items you have around the house.  (i.e. use a sheet to become a ghost, cut out and tape facial features to an orange shirt to become a jack-o-lantern, etc.)

Ghost in the House (Monsters) Story Time: October 15-16, 2018

Craft: Ghost Windsock
The children glued a white circle over a recycled CD and drew on a face.  They then glued on long strips of tissue paper to the bottom to make into a windsock.  Small white tissue paper squares could be glued around the face if they liked.


Literacy Extensions:
- Both Ghost in the House and Little Goblins Ten feature counting.  For practice, have your child count the monsters on each page as you are reading the story.
- Monster Boogie has two verses using different words for dancing (i.e. boogie, wiggle).  See if your child can add more verses to the song / book with other words for dancing.

Ghost in the House Story Time: October 14, 2014

Craft: Ghost
Our craft this week was based on the craft pictured to the left.  Each child was given a piece of white cardstock that had been cut in half longways that they colored a face onto.  They then glued on pieces of white crepe paper along the bottom before gluing the cardstock into a cylinder.

Literacy Extensions:
- Have you child come up with their own counting rhyme featuring monsters (i.e. Ten Creepy Monsters or Ghost in the House)
- Talk about body parts by having your child describe the various features of the characters in the book your reading (i.e. Go Away, Big Green Monster)
