Story Times are held weekly on Monday and Tuesday mornings at 10:00 am. A monthly virtual Story Time is posted the first Tuesday of the month on the library's Facebook page.  It is available to view for one month before the next video is posted.

Craft: Skeleton
- Print skeleton outline onto colored paper
- Print skull onto white paper and cut out

- Cut white paper into short paper strips (1/2" x 1-1/2")

- Glue strips onto skeleton outline for bones

- Glue head to top of skeleton

Extension Activities:

- Learn about our bones and different types of skeletons.  Check out an informational book from the library to look at true skeletons.

- Talk about friendship and how we should treat out friends.

Craft: Big Green Monster

- Print out template and color

- Cut out facial featuers (hair, eyes, ears, nose, mouth)

- Color small paper plate

- Glue facial features to plate to make monster

Extension Activities:

- Go Away Big Green Monster uses sequencing to tell the story.  Ask your child to tell a simple story using sequencing.  Stories could include the steps to getting dressed or making a snack.

- We have been reading stories about the color green all month.  Go on a green scavenger hunt seeing how many things your child can find that is the color green.

Craft: Frog Puppet
This week's craft was based on the picture at left.  The kids colored eyes, tongue and hands before gluing to a paper lunch bag to turn into a puppet.


Literacy Extensions:
- This week's story time was all about movement.  So get up and moving.  Go to a park playground, take a walk, do some simple yoga together, etc.
- Both of our song books this week took familiar songs and revised them just a little.  See if your child can revise a familiar song from an animal's point of view.

Ghost in the House Story Time: October 14, 2014

Craft: Ghost
Our craft this week was based on the craft pictured to the left.  Each child was given a piece of white cardstock that had been cut in half longways that they colored a face onto.  They then glued on pieces of white crepe paper along the bottom before gluing the cardstock into a cylinder.

Literacy Extensions:
- Have you child come up with their own counting rhyme featuring monsters (i.e. Ten Creepy Monsters or Ghost in the House)
- Talk about body parts by having your child describe the various features of the characters in the book your reading (i.e. Go Away, Big Green Monster)

The kids decorated a cardstock cutout monster with cryaons and sparkles.

Literacy Extensions:
- Discuss common fears with your child -- monsters, dark, storms, etc.  Then talk about ways we can deal with our fears.  (i.e. The Monster at the End of This Book)
- Revise common rhymes and songs to include monsters (i.e. If You're a Monster and Five Ugly  Monsters)
