Royal Stories: Knight Owl -- 4/22/25

Each month, Miss Amy records a virtual Story Time that goes along with the monthly theme.  It will be posted monthly in the morning of the first Tuesday of the month.  (The video is available to watch for one month before a new one is uploaded.)

Craft: Knight Mask

- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper

- Cut out pieces (helmet, feather)

- Cut out center to show kid's face

- Color pieces

- Glue feather to top of helmet

- Glue jumbo craft stick to side 

Extension Activities:

- Design a shield.  Have your child draw symbols to represent characteristics they believe a knight should hold. (ex - bravery, truthful, smart, etc.)

- Go on a dragon hunt.  Hide a stuffed dragon or picture of a dragon somewhere in the house.  Then send your children to try to find it.

Wolves -- 10/22/24

Craft: Wolf Mask

- Print template (at left) on cardstock or heavy paper

- Cut out wolf's head and color

- Cut out eye holes

- Option 1:  Punch holes on both sides of mask and tie string or yarn through holes to be able to tie mask to face

- Option 2: Glue a large craft stick to the back of the mask for a mask you can hold

Extension Activities:

- Read different versions of the folktales The Three Little Pigs and Red Riding Hood for more wolf stories.

- Visit Activities for Kids | Wolf Conservation Center to learn more about wolves or for wolf-themed activities and printables for kids.

Craft: Cow Mask
This week's mask was based on the picture at left with one small change.  The make the cow's head, we chopped the plate in half and then cut out the center of the plate so that it looked like a "C".  The kids then colored the plate, nose, ears, and horns before gluing them all together.

Literacy Extensions:
- Extend I Spy on the Farm by giving clues about farm animals and seeing if your child can guess them.  Ask them for what the different baby animals are called or what sounds they make.
- Visit a farm and see if the owners will let you go on a tour.

Craft: Frog Mask
This is a very simple mask made from the ring of a paper plate.  The center of the plate is cut out.  Two large circle eyes are glued to the colored plate along with a red paper tongue that can be curled.

Literacy Extensions:
- Play a game of pretend with your child.  Call out different animals for your child to pretend to be.
- After reading Emma Kate, discuss which is the imaginary friend -- the little girl or the elephant.  Point out the visual clues given throughout the book.
