Naughty or Nice? Bedtime: December 11-12, 2017

Books:
Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed by Eileen Christelow *
Froggy Goes to Bed by Jonathan London
How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night? by Jane Yolen
Kitty Cat, Kitty Cat, Are You Going to Sleep? by Bill Martin Jr.
Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney *
No Sleep for the Sheep! by Karen Beaumont *

Craft: Standing Sheep
This week's craft was based on the picture at left with a few changes.  The kids were given a sheep's head and cotton balls to glue to a recycled CD.  Two clothespins were then attached to the bottom to make the sheep stand.

Literacy Extensions:
- A lot of these books go through bedtime rituals before the characters go to sleep.  Talk with your child about the rituals they go through before bed.  Have them try to list all the rituals in order they do them each night.
- Bedtime is a great time to read stories together.  Make sure to pick books that will calm your child rather than get them excited.

Mommy Story Time: May 8-9, 2017

Books:
It's Snowing! by Olivier Dunrea
Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney *
Mama's Coming Home by Kate Banks
My Monster Mama Loves Me So by Laura Leuck *
Ol' Mama Squirrel by David Ezra Stein *
Upside Down Babies by Jeanne Willis

Craft: MOM Heart Necklace
Children colored three small hearts that spelled out "MOM".  They then strung the hearts onto curling ribbon along with pony beads to make a necklace.

Literacy Extensions:
- You can use the books Llama Llama Red Pajama or Mama's Coming Home to start a discussion with your child about patience.  Talk about how it is difficult to be patient at times and maybe come up with some strategies to help be more patient.
- After reading My Monster Mama Loves Me So, have your child point out similarities and differences between the monster mama and their mom.

Pajamas & Coats Story Time: March 28-29, 2016

Books:
Here Comes Winter by Janet Craig
Joseph Had a Little Overcoat by Simms Taback *
Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney *
Piggies in Pajamas by Michelle Meadows
Ruth's Pink Pajamas by Julie Gassman *
Ruthie's Big Old Coat by Julie Lacome

Craft: Llama Llama in Bed
This week's craft is pictured above.  The bed was made by folding a long half sheet of paper leaving about 1-1/2" inches at the top uncovered and then gluing the sides to make into a pouch.  The kids then colored a llama cutout and then stuck it into the bed pouch.

Literacy Extensions:
- After reading Ruth's Pink Pajamas, ask your child to come up with reasons why pajamas would not be appropriate attire for various places (i.e. school, library, store, etc.)
- After reading Joseph Had a Little Overcoat, talk about how various items of clothes could be made into a new item of clothes.
