Story Times
are held weekly on Monday and Tuesday mornings at 10:00 am. A monthly
virtual Story Time is posted the first Tuesday of the month on the
library's Facebook page. It is available to view for one month before
the next video is posted.

Mysteries in the Stacks: The Case of the Missing Chalk Drawings -- 5/28/24
Books:
7 Ate 9: The Untold Story by Tara Lazar
Ginger and the Mystery Visitor by Charlotte Voake
The Mysterious Tadpole by Steven Kellogg
Sloth Slept On by Frann Preston-Gannon
Street Monsters by Barbara M. Joosse
- Print out template onto cardstock or heavy paper
- Cut out sheep and color
- Cut green paper into small strips
- Optional: Tear green paper into smaller strips, curl the strips, or fold them
- Glue green paper onto sheep
Extension Activities:
- Riddles are basically short mysteries. Ask your child some riddles to see if they can "solve" the answers.
- Have fun writing secret messages. Use a white crayon on white paper to write a message. Then brush over the message with watercolor paint. The message should appear through the paint.

Craft: Curly Colorful Sheep
- Print out template of sheep.
- Optional -- Cut out sheep if you like.
- Color sheep.
- Roll small strips of colored paper into curls and glue onto sheep.
- Variation: Tear colored paper into small pieces and glue onto sheep as if collage.
Extension Activities:
- My Friends Make My Happy has the characters guessing what makes sheep happy that starts with the letter "F". Ask your child to come up with lists of items that make them happy for each letter of the alphabet.
- Go on a scavenger hunt to find green items like the sheep.

Six Sandy Sheep by Judith Ross Enderle *
Craft: Rocking Sheep
This week's craft is based on the picture above. A paper plate was folded in half. Cotton balls were stretched and glued to the inner ring of the paper plate for the sheep's body. Black paper strips were glued as legs and two paper circles were glued on (back-to-back) for the head. The outer ring could then be colored as grass or other background.
Extension Activities:
- Practice phonics using the "baa" sound. See how many words your child can think of that start with the "baa" sound.
- See if you can visit a working sheep farm to see what sheep's wool is really like.

Mary Had a Little Lamb (Sheep) Sing-Along Story Time: June 11-12, 2018

Farmer Brown Shears His Sheep by Teri Sloat *
Mary Had a Little Lamb by Maryann Hoberman *
Six Sandy Sheep by Judith Ross Enderle
Where Is the Green Sheep? by Mem Fox *
Craft: Standing Sheep
Children colored a sheep body that was folded in half to stand and then glued on the sheep's head. They could then glue on multi-colored pieces of yarn to give the sheep wool.
Literacy Extensions:
- See if there is a working sheep farm nearby to visit that will allow your child to interact with the sheep.
- Farmer Brown Shears His Sheep gives the basic steps of turning sheep's wool into sweaters by knitting. Maybe try some simple finger knitting or paper weaving with your child.

Craft: Standing Sheep
This week's craft was based on the picture at left with a few changes. The kids were given a sheep's head and cotton balls to glue to a recycled CD. Two clothespins were then attached to the bottom to make the sheep stand.
Literacy Extensions:
- A lot of these books go through bedtime rituals before the characters go to sleep. Talk with your child about the rituals they go through before bed. Have them try to list all the rituals in order they do them each night.
- Bedtime is a great time to read stories together. Make sure to pick books that will calm your child rather than get them excited.
