Turkeys Story Time: November 29-20, 2018

Books:
10 Turkeys in the Road by Brenda Reeves Sturgis *
The Best Thanksgiving Ever! by Teddy Slater *
I'm a Turkey! by Jim Arnosky *
A Plump and Perky Turkey by Teresa Bateman
Run, Turkey, Run! by Diane Mayr

Craft: CD Turkey
This week's craft was based on the picture at left.  The children glued strips of brown paper onto a used cd-rom.  They then glued on the eyes/beak/waddle combo piece to make the face.  They colored cutout feathers to glue to the back of the cd-rom.  An orange pipe cleaner was folded in half and taped to the back of the cd-rom to make the turkey's legs.

Literacy Extensions:
- We read about turkeys this week in preparation for Thanksgiving.  Talk with your child about things for which you are thankful.  Have your child draw or "write" on the turkey's feathers different things for which they are thankful.
- Practice drawing skills.  Have your child trace their hand to make the traditional turkey.

St. Patrick's Story Time: June 20-21, 2016

Books:
Good Luck Bear by Greg Foley *
Green Shamrocks by Even Bunting
The Luckiest St. Patrick's Day Ever! by Teddy Slater *
The Night Before St. Patrick's Day by Natasha Wing *
Ten Lucky Leprechauns by Kathryn Heling

Craft: Paper Plate Leprechaun
This week's craft was based on the picture at left.  The kids colored a face and hair onto a large paper plate before gluing on a green hat.  They could cut slits around the plate for the beard if they liked.

Literacy Extensions:
- Learn about the history of St. Patrick's Day.  Tomie DePaola's book Patrick: Patron Saint of Ireland gives a lot information about the real St. Patrick.
- Practice cutting shapes by making shamrocks out of various shapes (i.e. circles, hearts, ovals, etc.)
