Halloween -- 10/29/24

Craft: Frankenstein's Monster
- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper.
- Cut out pieces (head, hair) and color
- Glue hair to head
- Cut four strips of green paper
- Glue to head for arms and legs
- (Optional) Fold or curl arms and legs



Extension Activities:
- It is a St. Louis area tradition to tell a joke to get candy while trick or treating.  Practice telling jokes with your child in preparation.
- Make a batch of Witch's Brew drink for Halloween night by mixing lime sherbet, lemon-lime soda, and pineapple juice.  Click HERE for the recipe and for fun, spooky add-ins.

Craft: Wolf Mask
- Print template (at left) on cardstock or heavy paper
- Cut out wolf's head and color
- Cut out eye holes
- Option 1:  Punch holes on both sides of mask and tie string or yarn through holes to be able to tie mask to face
- Option 2: Glue a large craft stick to the back of the mask for a mask you can hold


Extension Activities:
- Read different versions of the folktales The Three Little Pigs and Red Riding Hood for more wolf stories.
- Visit Activities for Kids | Wolf Conservation Center to learn more about wolves or for wolf-themed activities and printables for kids.

Craft: Bat
- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper
- Cut out pieces (body, two wings)
- Color pieces
- Glue wings to side of bat's body


Extension Activities:
- Create a bat sensory bin using dry rice and dried bow tie pasta (bats).  Have kids search out and try to pick up the "bats" with tongs to practice hand-eye coordination.
- Make a bat out of a coffee filter and clothespin.  Color the clothespin as the bat's body.  Color the coffee filter for the wings.  (You could use washable markers on the coffee filter and spritz with a little water for some science fun.) Fold the coffee filter in half and then clip with the clothespin for the wings.

Craft: Spider
- Print template (at left) onto cardstock or heavy paper and cut out
- Cut 8 strips of paper (1/2" x 4")
- Color spider's body and fold along dotted line so head stands up
- Glue legs to spider's body






Extension Activities:
- Have a spider race using pompoms for the spiders.  Use straws to see who can blow their spider across the finish line first.
- Have your child make a spiderweb.  Cut out the center of a paper plate and hole punch holes around the edges of the plate.  Have your child string yarn or curling ribbon through the holes around the plate to make a spider web.

Craft: Turtle
- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper
- Cut out turtle
- Cut along solid line on shell
- Color turtle
- Fold shell over so solid line is underneath shell going to dotted line and glue in place so shell "pops" up


Extension Activities:
- I Am Stuck is about a turtle that is stuck on his back.  Have your children pretend to be different animals and see how they would become "unstuck".
- Take a nature walk to look at different types of trees.  Note the animals (birds, insects, etc) that live in those trees.
