Extension Activities:
- Sing the song "Old MacDonald Had a Farm".  Let your child suggest animals to include on the farm and have them come up with their sounds.
- We've been sharing some of our favorite picture books from this past year.  Ask your child what their favorite picture books are.  Which books would they choose for a "favorites" story time.

- Cut out a small yellow circle (approx 3") and draw on a face
- Cut out small yellow triangles (approx 1")
- Cut strips of colored paper (approx 1"x3")
- Glue circle to center of a recycled CD
- Glue triangles around sun for rays
- Glue strips of colored paper on back of CD for a rainbow



Extension Activities:
- Read the books Are You Big? and Are You Small? by Mo Willems.  Then have your child come up with several objects to compare the sizes of them.  Which are smaller?  Which are bigger?
- The Sun in Goodnight Sun does not like the dark.  Make a fun night light with your child.  Purchase a cheap night light from the dollar store and use Sharpies to color on the bulb/shade.  This will give a fun colored night light for your child.

- As you read/go through the book A Bear, a Fish, and Fishy Wish with your child have them tell you the story by filling in what is happening (more than the words in the book).
- Play a game of Hide and Seek with friends/family.

- After reading Tyrannosaur Wrecks, have a discussion with your child about how the wrecks in the beginning of the book are different than the ones at the end.  What makes them different?  Why would reactions to those wrecks be different?
- Hold a dance party to go along with reading Tyrannosaurus Rex vs. Edna the Very FirstChicken.  Ask your child to dance like different kinds of dinosaurs.  Make sure to include the Chicken Dance.

- Cut two long strips of paper and glue into headband

- Glue wings to side and fold so they flap outwards


Extension Activities:
- Focus on fine motor skills by having your child "rescue" a dinosaur.  Wrap several small rubber bands around a larger toy dinosaur.  Then have your child unwrap the rubber bands to "save" it.
- Create a Dinosaur Hopscotch board.  Use chalk to draw a hopscotch board outside.  Include other activities in the board such as Dinosaur Stomps, Dinosaur Hops, etc.

Extension Activities:
- Create a bat sensory bin using dry rice and dried bow tie pasta (bats).  Have kids search out and try to pick up the "bats" with tongs to practice hand-eye coordination.
- Make a bat out of a coffee filter and clothespin.  Color the clothespin as the bat's body.  Color the coffee filter for the wings.  (You could use washable markers on the coffee filter and spritz with a little water for some science fun.) Fold the coffee filter in half and then clip with the clothespin for the wings.

Extension Activities:
- Have a spider race using pompoms for the spiders.  Use straws to see who can blow their spider across the finish line first.
- Have your child make a spiderweb.  Cut out the center of a paper plate and hole punch holes around the edges of the plate.  Have your child string yarn or curling ribbon through the holes around the plate to make a spider web.

- Cut out turtle
- Cut along solid line on shell
- Color turtle
- Fold shell over so solid line is underneath shell going to dotted line and glue in place so shell "pops" up


Extension Activities:
- I Am Stuck is about a turtle that is stuck on his back.  Have your children pretend to be different animals and see how they would become "unstuck".
- Take a nature walk to look at different types of trees.  Note the animals (birds, insects, etc) that live in those trees.

- Visit a local animal shelter to visit with the animals.  See if they will let you volunteer time "reading" to the dogs and cats.

Social Skills -- 8/27/24

Story Times are held weekly on Monday and Tuesday mornings at 10:00 am. A monthly virtual Story Time is posted the first Tuesday of the month on the library's Facebook page.  It is available to view for one month before the next video is posted.

Craft: Heart Friends
- Print template onto cardstock or heavy paper
- Cut out pieces (two heart halves, two arms)
- Color pieces
- Glue two halves of heart together
- Glue arms onto heart so they are either hugging, high fiving, or waving.


Extension Activities:
- Play a game of charades using emotions.  Have the children act out the different emotions such as happiness, anger, sadness, etc.
- Work on cooperation.  Create a maze using either chalk outside or masking tape on the floor inside.  Then have one person direct another person who is blindfolded through the maze.
